{this moment} - a Friday ritual. A single photo - no words - capturing a moment from the week. A simple, special, extraordinary moment. A moment I want to pause, savour, and remember. (Inspired by SouleMama).
I hope you have a wonderful weekend!
Goodness, it's been ages since my last post!
We've had Springtime colds here (Lulu's first ever, poor thing), and they just seemed to hang on and on and to last for weeks!
That, and, to be honest, lately I feel like I've barely been keeping on top of all the housework that comes with having an adorable six-month-old baby and two very messy (but nonetheless cute) little doggies in the house, who, with the start of the warmer weather, have begun exploring and digging in the garden again - and then trampling half of it back inside!
When it comes to motherhood, nothing - nothing - prepares you for the amount of cleaning and washing one extra little body can generate! It really is neverending, isn't it? *S* But I had a bit of an "Aha!" moment this morning:
I was sitting in my lounge room, looking at all the cloth nappies and wipes hanging up to dry in one corner, little piles of folded baby clothes and washcloths ready to be put away, washing up to be done at the kitchen sink, and dog and baby toys strewn around the room...
And suddenly I remembered back to the time when, living alone in a spotless house, I so longed for just this - a home with a slightly messy, 'lived-in', cosy feel to it; which, to my mind, was an indication of a happy, relaxed, interesting family living therein.
Signs of life being lived.
Together!
Back then, when it was just me, the house was a bit too perfect. Everything had it's place and it felt almost too tidy. And, I suppose, a little empty, really.
And then and there this morning, I decided that I am not going to look around and see all the things that need to be done here any more!
Instead, from now on, I choose to look around and love my happy, lived-in, imperfect, and slightly messy little home..
Because this is what I always dreamt of! :-)

How sweet is this little bird print? Its called 'Nest', by Valori Wells for Free Spirit, and is made from the softest 100% cotton corduroy. It also comes in lime green and teal blue (that I know of!).
Now, I'm not so sure Lulu needed another pair of pants...
...but after receiving a gorgeous little parcel of fabrics in the post this morning, I ask you, how was I to resist whipping these up for her during her lunchtime nap today?
Surely every little girl needs a pair of pink birdy pants, right?
Oooh, I can't wait to get stuck into the rest of the package!

How much mileage can you get from a few yards of fabric you bought to make skirts? Um, lots!
So far, from these beautiful Heather Bailey prints, I have made skirts for myself, pants for Lulu, last weekend I made this wall-hanging for our home, and I still have leftovers enough to save for a future patchwork project!
I had never done applique before, and this project was completely unplanned. My 'pyjamas-and-ideas' Sunday, which I had planned to spend writing some notes about yearly and seasonal celebrations I wish to introduce into our little family, suddenly turned into a 'mama's making a wall-hanging for the house' afternoon.
I'm not quite sure how that happened, but it was fun!
I got the idea from this wonderful book, by Amanda Blake Soule. At first, I was thinking I might make a banner like the one featured on the cover, but then, upon flicking through the book, I came upon her memory tree quilt, and decided to try something like that instead.
The project was a little fiddly, but not at all difficult. I simply cut a rectangle out of an old thrifted sheet I had stashed away, and appliqued straight onto that.
It would have been simpler had I used double-sided fusible interfacing, but I had none, and since there is no Sunday trading where I am in Perth, I made do with single-sided interfacing. I simply folded it in half so that both sides stuck.
I found an old bamboo stake out in the garden, which I cut to size and used to hang it on the wall.
Yes, it's very bright, isn't it? But I'm liking it! It really cheers up the rather dark corner of my dining room where it now hangs. And what's better, it's hiding a very ugly electricity box behind it!!
So, now that I've tried my hand at applique for the first time, and enjoyed it, I already have ideas for more projects churning around in my head..
Watch this space!
What have you been working on lately? I'd love to take a look! Please post a link in comments if you'd like to share your project!
